My House Doesn’t Measure Up

September 28, 2009

My house doesn’t measure up, and I bet yours doesn’t either. Whose place looks like a magazine spread? Who has the cooking skills of a world-famous chef? Which of us can just invite as many friends as we’d like without noticing the effect on our food budget?

If I had a nickel for everyone who told me about their inadequacies as a host/hostess/cook I would be wealthy indeed.

Luckily, our friends are forgiving. That is why they are our friends. They are delighted to be invited; they come prepared to have a good time. Don’t you wish that you could get invited to more parties at people’s homes?

When you are the host, if you don’t want to do all the cooking, get some prepared foods, or make the invitation pot luck. Or make some of the food yourself, and ask your friends to contribute a favorite dish.

Clean your house the day before, but once you’ve done as much as you can do, don’t stress. Just open the door with a big smile on your face. That’s the one ingredient you can’t do without.
